Why Join the NWPD Reserve Constable Program?
Whether you are considering a career in policing or just want to give back to your community, the New Westminster Police Department’s Reserve Constable Program can offer you an exciting and rewarding opportunity to gain valuable police experience while participating in community special events, developing and implementing new programs within the city, or accompanying a police officer while in a ride along capacity.
Training Requirements
All of our Reserve Constables must complete the NWPD Reserve Constable Training Program set out by the B.C. Police Service under the Ministry of Justice and in collaboration with the Justice Institute of British Columbia. Training will take place over a period of three months and will include such topics as legal studies, search and seizure, note-taking, bicycle patrol, use of force certification, physical training, tactical communication, crime prevention, and traffic control. Each candidate must successfully pass both a mid-term and final examination before they can graduate from the NWPD Reserve Constable Program and be appointed as a Special Municipal Constable.

STEP THREE Suitability interview with our recruitment team
STEP FOUR Written exam
STEP FIVE A background investigation, which includes a polygraph exam
STEP SIX Successful applicants are notified
STEP SEVEN COPAT to be completed prior to training commencing
