New Westminster – On January 19 the New Westminster Police Department made an arrest after a resident called 9-1-1 believing someone was breaking into the condominium mail room. That suspect has since been connected to a total of 17 different offences ranging from theft of auto to possession of stolen property.
39 year old Mark Forrest of New Westminster has been charged with the following offences:
- Twelve counts of Break and Enter contrary to Section 348 (1) (b) of the Criminal Code;
- One count of Mail Theft contrary to Section 356 (1) of the Criminal Code;
- Two counts of Possession of a Break and Enter instrument contrary to Section 351 of the Criminal Code;
- And one count of Possession of Identity Documents contrary to Section 56 (1) of the Criminal Code.
“This arrest sends a clear message that crime doesn’t pay in New Westminster,” stated Sergeant Andrew Leaver. “The Street Crime Unit’s dedication and investigative work ensures that criminals will be identified and arrested. It’s only a matter of time.”
The New Westminster Police Department is grateful to the citizens and resident managers who take the time to report property crimes and assist police. Additionally, officers would like to remind residents about the importance of calling 9-1-1 when they see what they believe to be a break and enter in progress.
