New Westminster – The New Westminster Police Department is asking for the public’s help to identify a suspect following a report of a sexually motivated assault of a woman who did not know her assailant.
On February 9 at approximately 1:20 am the victim called police for help and shared that a man sexually assaulted her inside his vehicle after he had offered her a ride in the 500 block of 6th Street. New Westminster Police Department officers are now appealing to the public to help them identify the suspect in the hopes of furthering their investigation.
The suspect is described as male, between 30 to 40 years of age, dark skinned, possibly South Asian in appearance, wearing a baseball cap, white long-sleeve shirt, and a dark vest. The suspect was driving a white newer model four door vehicle. Investigators are collecting CCTV and speaking with those who were in the area. The victim is being supported by specially trained Victim Assistance Unit staff.
“Our team is actively reviewing CCTV footage and speaking with witnesses,” Stated Sergeant Andrew Leaver. “If you were in the area around this time or have any relevant information, please contact us.”
Police are seeking dash cam footage from the 500 block of 6th Street between the hours of 1:00 am and 1:30 am. Additionally, police are asking anyone who recognizes this man, or has information about the assault, to call the New Westminster Police Department Specialized Investigations Unit at 604-525-5411.
