New Westminster – At approximately 4:30 pm on March 29, the New Westminster Police Department responded to a 9-1-1 call from someone sharing he was witnessing a man cocking a firearm near 6th Avenue and 7th Street. Police flooded the area and located someone matching the suspect description. The suspect complied with police instructions and was arrested. When the man was searched by police, a pistol was located in possession.
New Westminster Police Department officers will be recommending the following charges:
One count of Breach of Probation contrary to Section 733.1 of the Criminal Code.
Five counts of possession contrary to order, contrary to section 117.01 of the Criminal Code;
One count of Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose contrary to Section 88 of the Criminal Code.
“Thanks to the brave officers who located and quickly arrested this armed suspect,” stated Sergeant Andrew Leaver. “This suspect has a lengthy criminal history.”
Police would like to thank the person who witnessed the suspect and called 9-1-1. At this time, the suspect remains in police custody.
