New Westminster – The New Westminster Police Department is investigating a suspicious fire that occurred on February 20 at approximately 10:15pm. The New Westminster Tennis Club, which is located in the 300 block of Royal Avenue, was not occupied and sustained extensive damage.
The NWPD Major Crime Unit has taken conduct of this investigation and is working alongside our partners at the New Westminster Fire and Rescue Service.
“We are committed to finding out how it happened,” shared Media Relations Officer Sergeant Andrew Leaver. “We’re asking anyone with information, no matter how small, to come forward and help us piece together the events of that night. Your cooperation could be crucial to our investigation.”
Investigators urge residents and business owners in the immediate area to check their surveillance or dashcam footage, specifically between 9:30pm and 10:30pm, for video evidence that may assist with the investigation. Additionally, detectives are asking any witnesses who haven’t yet shared with police what they saw are asked to call the New Westminster Police Department Major Crime Unit tip line at 604-529-2430 or send an email to mcucrimetips@nwpolice.org.
