New Westminster – On Saturday February 1, at approximately 5:45 pm police received a call to 9-1-1 about a man with a knife in Downtown New Westminster. According to the caller, the man had struck someone with his hand before going inside River Market. Officers rushed to the area to provide aid to the victim and to locate the suspect.
Later that evening, patrol officers located and arrested the suspect a few blocks away. He was arrested without incident.
“We recognize that our presence inside River Market may have been concerning for families and shoppers,” said Sergeant Andrew Leaver. “Our officers were there to ensure public safety, and we appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation.”
